About
Matt ‘Martian’ Williams
hello@mattmartian.com
Matt started photography the day he picked up a camera to document his newborn son's early life. What began as a way to preserve fleeting moments became an ongoing practice of paying attention to people, places, and how experience takes shape over time.
Based in Phoenix, Arizona, and working throughout the Southwest, Matt shoots commercial, editorial, portrait, and corporate photography. His work comes from curiosity and care, with real attention to the in-between moments most people rush past. Whether he's on set with an agency, a brand, or a small business, he brings a grounded presence and looks for the moment that feels true.
Matt co-owns Blok Photo Studio, a daylight studio in Downtown Phoenix, and co-founded Litebox Creative, a production company that provides gear rental and on-set support for creatives across Arizona.
His belief is simple. Photography works when it sees something real and helps someone else see it too.
How we start
Most projects start with a conversation. Tell me what you're trying to say, what you need delivered, and how it should feel. An editorial assignment calls for a different approach than a brand campaign. I tend to have lots of clarity questions.
If there's a style guide or a mood board, send it over. If not, totally fine. We can collaborate on it.
On set
I move efficiently and intentionally once the plan is set. A good session leaves room for something unscripted. Some of my most impactful shots came from a pause between setups.
Turnaround
Editorial work tends to move faster than commercial. Deliverables and scope affect timing. A branding campaign with multiple deliverables takes longer, and I'll give you a real number before we start.
Who this is for
Publications and editors need someone who can walk into an unfamiliar room and come back with a story. Brands and agencies need consistency across a campaign. Small businesses need someone who explains the process instead of assuming they already know it.
